Stephen Byrne- Producer/Editor
Stephen is an award-winning freelance producer/editor from Waterford Ireland and based in Dublin.
He has been working in the creative/film industry since 2002 and has been a sole trader since 2007, trading under the name Mad Dog Productions.
Stephen started out doing courses in the Irish Film Institute and secured a certificate in Film Foundation.
Soon after the course, he started work as a producer of short films.
He produced or Co-produced a series of short films that won several awards ( including the Spirit of the Festival Award &
Best Short Comedy Award).
He also achieved a BTEC Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production in 2015.
In 2016 as part of the programming for the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, his film ‘Jack’s Hat’ which is set in 1916 was selected to broadcast on Ireland's National Broadcaster, RTE.
After the broadcast, RTE picked up the film for their online media players for a further 4 years, making the film
one of the longest runs on their players for short films.
In 2007 he established the Waterford International Film Festival and is the Creative/Festival Director.
For his work in the Festival, he was nominated for The Contribution to the Arts Awards for the South East region of the Country.
These awards were presented by Bausch and Lomb & WLRFM.
The festival has been running successfully ever since and in 2022 it will be celebrating its 16th Annual Event.
Stephen has worked on a variety of different projects over the years including, short films, online adverts, film trailers, websites & actors' showreels.
In 2019 Stephen started collaborating with Producer Zahara Moufid of Jim Sheridan company Hell’s Kitchen including the Dublin Arabic Film Festival in which Zahara is Festival Director and Stephen is Festival Programmer.
Stephen also designed the Dublin Arabic Film Festival’s website and edits the trailers of the films for the festival.
In 2020 he contributed to the production of an online event called The Jim Sheridan Short Film Competition.
At the start of 2022, he was awarded a Semi-Finalist Spot for Best Trailer in the Arthouse Festival of Beverly Hills for the Short Film Quest' by Maree Egan.
Stephen is currently developing several projects and continues his work on The Waterford Film Festival and the Dublin Arabic Film Festival.
